National Police Week
In 1962, President Kennedy proclaimed May 15th to be National Peace Officers Memorial Day and the calendar week in which it falls, National Police Week.
National Police Week 2012 will be celebrated Sunday, May 13th through Saturday, May 19th with Tuesday, May 15th being National Peace Officers Memorial Day. During this week, many events, services and activities will be held - all to honor the brave men and women who dedicated their lives to serving our country and who made the ultimate sacrifice.
The National Peace Officers Memorial Day Service, hosted by the Fraternal Order of Police and the Fraternal Order of Police Auxiliary is always held on May 15th, regardless of the day of the week. The Candlelight Vigil is traditionally held on May 13th, again, regardless of the day of the week on which it falls.
The 24th Annual Candlelight Vigil, sponsored by the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund, is held at the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial. This year the Vigil will take place on Sunday, May 13, 2012.
The National Peace Officers Memorial will be held on Tuesday, May 15, 2012 at 11:00 a.m., West Front of the U.S. Capitol.
